Life in the Upper Peninsula is hard.  The winters are long.  The opportunities for good paying jobs are few.  The people who live here work hard.  They ask for little and they get little. 

The Memorial Building is an important community asset.  It not only serves as a war memorial, it also is the soul of Wakefield.  Mr. Suomi recognizes this and he understands his responsibility to “give back.”  His offer of $5 million is very generous in any context but it is not enough to complete this restoration.
